I'm thinking of setting up my own business after a few years of working for others. Is there a normal period for a small business to break even/make profit, how many hours a day do you think I will need to put in, any other tips or advice?
Sorry if my questions sound naive, but didnt want to just dive in without some research and feedback generally.

There is no normal period from a start-up to when you go profitable. For some it can be instant especially if you already have a potential client base, for others, it can be years if ever. Some companies business plan is designed to make loss for a set period. I made a profit from the first month when I went solo, but that's because I work from home and overheads are minimal.
