How do i get a debt repaid?

asked by Katie Smithe posted 06-02-2012 at 8:29
Morning, I have a promissory note drawn up by a solicitor and signed by an ex-tenant who room shared for £1,300 of unpaid rent going back a year now. Todate I have only received £250 and no indication of how or when she is going to pay the rest back. What legal action can I now take as I'm getting very frustrated? What are the options available to me under the law? I'm also worried that the cost of recovering this might end up costing me more than the debt itself.

Thanks for any help Katie.

Speak to the solicitor who drew up the contract ,or go to the small claims court, you can regirter the debt for £35 I think which shows on the credit record of the individual - should stop them getting anothe rental!!
