Is there tax on acquiring shares transferred?

asked by Jessica Mason posted 2 Years ago at 13:09
Not a VAT question for you, hee, hee. If I transfer around 50% of my shares to my hubby (lucky chap) does he incur tax for acquiring the shares, or are they deemed as a gift? Jess.

Hi Jess, I don't think there is any tax on the transfer of shares between spouses. Seems like good use of CGT allowances?

No tax. Shares transfer between spouses at a value where there is no gain / no loss for capital gains tax purposes.

And for completeness stamp duty there isn't any charge because the transfer is for nil consideration and stamp duty is largely only a tax on consideration.
