I'm starting up my own bisiness shortly in online high-end fashion and small luxury goods. I hear everyone talking about SEO, but I know so little about this and don't want to get ripped-off or go in the wrong direction. Any clues or help here?
Thanks in anctipation Georgina

Well, Georgina. I think you'll need to spend some money. Try Google AdWords and maybe Microsoft's Bing to start with. You can set a budget so that you know how much you'll be charged each month.More basically, and before you do anything else, make sure your website is up and working properly. If you are having it designed by someone else, make sure they are using META keyword tags etc - they'll know what I mean. The content of course is the most important. If your website does not include a blog then consider creating one, either within your website or one one of the free blog services such as wordpress.com.
With both of the above you'll have to choose the keywords prospective clients are likely to enter into a search engine to find you. This is, of course, crucial. High-end and/or popular keywords cost more to advertise than others.
Don't forget to make full use of the social media including facebook and twitter. Create a page for your firm on facebook and open a twitter account just for the firm. You can advertise on facebook but I have no experience of this either the price or the effectiveness.
Finally, don't forget to write entries on your blog, facebook and twitter. At a minimum a blog entry a week, rather more frquently on facebook and twitter where you should refer to these entries as well as other comments of interest.
I hope it goes well for you.

Hi Georgina. I agree with the first reply, but its also worth mentioning that the use of video now has a massive impact on getting your business found online.Video is no longer an item only to be watched, but should be seen as an essential online marketing tool. When correctly produced and submitted, video can help you get your business found online where people are actually searching. It will help you present authentic, genuine information about your business. Presented in a likeable way that is attractive to prospective customers. You can tell your story, show off your character, make a video that people want to watch and share. Not only will we give you the chance to engage directly with thousands of customers, it’ll help get your business out in front of the competition.
Spending your web based budget on professional video production is going to help you gain more visibility, those all important customers, business and sales. Done right - your return on investment could be tenfold.
